Elgeyo Marakwet Governor H.E.Eng. Alex Tolgos has launched an astonishing attack the County’s Senator and Senate leader of Majority Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen for what he terms Negligence and desertion of duty. The fall out between the two hitherto close representatives comes in the wake of the National Treasury’s decision to whittle down the County’s annual budget; a move that was supported by Hon. Murkomen. The senator accuses the County Executive of Lacking ideas and doing a shoddy job when implementing projects, a situation which has led to the County’s poor absorption of allocated funds.
The Governor on the other hand feels that his county is being unfairly treated with allocations from the National Treasury being among the lowest in the country. He particularly blames the County’s Senator for focusing all his energies on National Politics and forgetting his key mandate of looking out for the County’s interests.
“The guy has gotten too far immersed with national politics and abusing Hon. Raila Odinga to the point where he’s completely grown out of touch with the affairs of the County and the dire plight of the residents of Elgeyo Marakwet County. If he feels that legislating and advancing our interests in Nairobi has become an unwelcome interference, he should do the honorable thing and resign to enable him focus on national politics.”
Senator Murkomen has however rubbished the Governor’s sentiments and urged him to stop deflecting the blame and instead focus his energies on getting his house in order lest he be seen as a failure.
