Eldoret based super funny MC Kiptabut is in utter agony after being conned by a long time friend of his popularly known as Johnny iPhone. According to Kiptabut, he wanted to buy a car having saved for it for a long time and when he had enough cash, he reached out to his friend John who had a beautiful Subaru he was looking to dispose of.

“Having saved for close to a year I approached Johnny and after negotiating we settled on a price of 450,000 shillings,” Kiptabut told us on a phone call. He paid 200,000 shillings upfront in cash and the remaining 250,000 via Cheque. “He insisted on cash only but for future reference I decided to do Cheque. I thank God for that sixth sense, else I’d have lost all my money without any proof of a deal,” continues Kiptabut.
Trouble started when Kiptabut decided to do a background check on the car as he waited for it to be detailed up.
“Initially I saw no need of doing a search on NTSA’s website since I trusted the guy seeing that he was a long time friend, or so I thought. I decided out of sheer curiosity to do a quick search online and the shock that greeted me is something I will carry with me for a long long time to come. The number plate returned a nil result meaning that the plate had long been de-registered and consequently fraudulently acquired and used by Johnny,” lamented the comedian.
He has since reported the matter to the police after efforts to get a refund from Johnny proved futile. “I am a self employed man, working so hard to feed my young family and someone somewhere lies in wait to swindle my hard earned cash; which I painstakingly saved to get myself a car to help make my hustle better. It is very unfair and I won’t rest till justice is served,” Kiptabut concluded.

This comes after a spike in motor vehicle related fraud in Eldoret town with Police busting a car jacking syndicate two weeks ago in Kimumu estate and in the process recovering various stolen vehicles and spare parts ostensibly acquired from dismantled stolen cars.
