Nandi County Governor Wakili Stephen Arap Sang has launched a scathing attack on Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho. Speaking during a church function at Cheptarit Catholic Church in Mosoriot Township, Nandi County, Governor Sang accused Governor Joho of watering down the good intentions of the handshake between new bosom buddies Jubilee Party’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party’s Raila Odinga; hitherto bitter political foes.
“When Raila and Uhuru Kenyatta shook hands last year, it ended political animosity and started the long path to forgiveness and reconciliation in this country. As members of Jubilee party and specifically supporters of Deputy President William Samoei Ruto, we honestly accepted this new development with open minds. However, we are left in wonder when the ODM Deputy Party leader Hon. Joho states that the handshake between Hons. Raila and Uhuru is okay, yet he continues fighting DP Ruto day in day out,” Said Gov. Sang.
The Nandi Governor went ahead to further accuse Joho of involving himself in the drug trafficking trade and advised him to focus on clearing his name before picking squabbles with other leaders.
“As a country, we are facing the huge challenge that is the drug menace. We are literally losing an entire generation of youth to drug and substance abuse and its very disheartening to see names of leaders appearing in lists of suspected players. I would advise my brother to focus on clearing his name with the FBI and other international organizations first then come and lecture us here,” he concluded.
This comes in the wake of an alleged 8 hour meeting of the Deputy President’s loyalists at his Karen home over the weekend where the recent appointment of Dr. Fred Matiangi’ as chief minister as well as DP Ruto’s brand positioning vis-a-vis the 2022 succession politics were up for discussion. Analysts expect an escalation of hostilities between lieutenants of both Mr. Ruto and Mr. Odinga as the 2022 succession race hots up.
